We are aware of some recent concerns that have been raised in relation to the gluten free status of certain products manufactured by Nestlé. It seems the main cause of concern relates to an increasing practice by some retailers in Ireland whereby they purchase products for resale form alternative suppliers In some cases, these can be from different manufacturing sources to those for which we have received declarations of the gluten free status.
As you can appreciate, the Coeliac Society has no control whatsoever over how and where retailers purchase their stock, so we are not in a position to offer any guarantees on the status of any such products.
What we can do however, is share the detailed information that Nestlé have provided in the note they sent us this week. The note refers to Nestlé UK, but is valid for the Irish market as well. In this, they have outlined the current status of their products in an extensive list, as well as explaining in detail how to check before you purchase. As always, we would suggest you refer to the Society’s Food List and the latest additions and deletions to this List and as the golden rule for everyone, always read the label.
