As you know the 2018 Food List has now been sent to all members. Some members have asked why certain products have not been included in the List. We wanted to address these concerns and assure you that we are following up on all queries.
Background on how the Food List is Produced
The Coeliac Society of Ireland is a small charity. We have just 6 full-time and 2 part-time employees to support almost 5,000 active Members. Our aim is to make living with coeliac disease as easy as possible. We do this in a variety of different ways, including the production of the annual Food List.
We do our very best to help everyone who contacts us (including non-Members who occasionally seek our help), but it does take time to get through everything such as compiling and verifying all the products for the annual Food List. The production of the Food List is one of the biggest tasks the Society undertakes. As part of the Food List process we contact our database of manufacturers and request documentation regarding the gluten free status of their products before it can be included in the List. We must have a strict deadline to receive documentation, this year we repeatedly extended this deadline to try to include as many products as possible. This is one of the reasons the Food List distribution was delayed.
How we will improve our Communication of Food Information/Queries in Future
In an effort to improve the food information we provide during 2018, we are taking the following steps
- We will follow up on all products members have asked about in the 2018 List (e.g. products not included). Please be aware this may take time as we will require a response from the manufacturer so we can give members accurate information
- Put a more robust system in place to ensure we have more regular additions and deletions to the Food List
- Endeavour to respond to all Food Manager emails in 24 hours (work days) and respond to let you know what action has been taken e.g. contact with manufacturer
The Society exists for and because of members, like you. We always welcome volunteers to support our team, if you are interested in volunteering please email email@example.com.
