Coeliac Awareness Week 2019 taking place from Monday 13th May – Sunday 19th May
Grow with Us
From the first cry to the last sigh we are growing. From arms and legs and heads and tummies to learning and caring and laughter and loss. Coeliac disease wraps around our lives and weaves through all of our growth and experience. Feeling sick, getting diagnosed, feeling a lot better. Changing, managing, learning to say “I am coeliac” with pride. When you’re with family. When you eat out. When you need healthcare. When you need help. Finding support. From others who are like you. From others there to support you. We grow with coeliac disease. We grow with support. Grow with the Coeliac Society. We are here to grow with you.
During the week we are asking out Members to join us in a fundraising Walk Towards Awareness!
Coeliac disease sufferers are planning to walk around Ireland twice to raise awareness for the estimated 7,300 children who have the condition but are undiagnosed.
The Coeliac Society of Ireland says around 20 percent of the 36,500 people in Ireland with undiagnosed coeliac disease are aged under 14, based on EU norms.
The Society has enlisted its army of 3,600 members for a sponsored walk to raise awareness of the issue. They plan to walk or run between 2km and 5km, which is the equivalent of at least 7,314km or 1km for every undiagnosed child and amounts to walking around Ireland twice.
