Best snack food?

Postby Marie Claire » Wed Feb 20, 2008 11:06 pm

Hi,
I'm a newly diagnosed coeliac and am doing my Leaving Cert this June so I need all the energy and strength I can get.Just wondering what is the best snack food for maintaining high energy levels?I'm not a fussy eater so any suggestions are welcome!

Marie Claire,

Raisins and nuts are great high energy foods. You should also stock up on bananas as they release energy slower. Stay away from snack bars - too much sugar can mean an energy burst initially but will not last. Best of luck with the exams

My favourite GF bars are the "EAt Natural" range which I can get in local Supervalu. They are Fruit/nut based and some covered in dark choc or yogurt. Just over a euro each. Also range of Harvest Fare nut bars though toffee like binding is hard on the teeth! Otherwise just plain fruit if watching weight such as mandarin or banana for longer release energy. I make my own bread with added wholesome bits such as seeds etc. I freeze indiv slices so handy to stick in toaster or take along if eating out to supplement meal.
