hi, am a bit embaressed to ask this but due to lack of wholegrain which i would have eaten all the time pre-diagnosis, i now find my self slightly constipated. i do have the high fibre bread and rolls and eat fruit and veg, but still find it no better. can i take fibogel or something similar to help me 'go'? sorry for nature of this post but thought it best to ask a fellow coeliac who might be able to help? thanks :(

Veg and Fruit are the way to go. Cabbage, cauliflower and all the greens. Eat five a day and u'll be OK. Thats what I find works every time ha ha. If I don't eat five a day u know what happens. ha ha. Don't forget the prunes either. Forget tablets and stuff like that. Eat natural stuff.

Hi Gor,
Fruit & Veg is definitely the way to go, but most important of all is to make sure you're drinking enough water. Aim for at least 1.5 litres a day. I know that seems like a lot if you're not used to drinking lots of water, so my dietician recommended getting a 500ml bottle and refilling it throughout the day when you're starting out.
Hope that helps,
Orla

I grind up linseeds in an old coffee mill that I have. Then I put them in an airtight container, in the fridge (to preserve the valuable nutrients). In the morning, I add half or a whole tablespoon on top of my ritual muesli.

It seems that linseeds need lots of water to work, if you get me.

I think my vitamin handful has now reached a total of fifteen items.

Taking no chances.

Ener-G Pure Rice Bran (Gluten-free, Wheat-free & Dairy-free) works well. You just add a teaspoon to breakfast cereal or yoghurt. You can get it in most health food stores. Hope that helps.

Hi
I had the same problem when I first started the gf diet.
Fybogel is gluten free - it says so on the packet.
I find a half a sachet does the job!

I agree with the fruit and veg, must what i found to be the best cure, is two litres of water every day, its hard to get used to drinking it, but once you do ,, and see the results, you will be glad :D

I feel your pain, i was the same myself, and its not very pleasant

I had the same problem and I found fybogel rubbish. I've discovered Normacol sachets which look a bit like cat litter, you put them on your tongue and swallow them with a little bit of water. There's very little taste and they're easy to take. they are brilliant, I'd recomend them to anyone. You can buy them over the counter in most chemists

Marmayo..
..i would be inclined to suffer same as you and very severely before diagnosis,(even had compacted bowel more than once),that is why it was so long being diagnosed as not typical coeliac symptoms as far as docs are concerned..Anyway i figured being on the gf diet that things would improve..though i still had problems. As i always had a great diet with plenty of fruit and veg and water i realised something else had to be causing it. and this is just a thought that you might want to consider yourself..all the gf items i was eating such as juvela, have wheat starch in them, tried cutting them out to see if it made a difference and it turns out that i cannot tolerate them..
maybe you should look at what you're eating just incase!?
