Budapest
Hi all,
I'm recently back from a brilliant trip to Budapest in Hungary and I just wanted to share the great success I had there eating out. I've passed on the details of the restuarants I ate in to Emma and she is going to add them to the information on Budapest.
I was most impressed with the availability of Gluten Free cereal. It is readily available in the normal cereal section of the supermarkets (I found it in the Match supermarkets). It's called Cerbona (a Hungarian Cereal Company) and they make Cocopops (Cerbi Kakaos Vizspehely - in a yellow packet) and caramel cornflakes (in a blue packet). Both have Glutenmentes written on the front of the packet.
Danone yoghurts also have the GF symbol on them (unlike at home!) and you can get rice cakes in most shops, even the really small corner shops.
The restaurant that I ate in that I would definitely recommend trying is Wasabi:
Visegradi Utca 2, VIII ker (8th District) Ph: 4120427
They prepared me three fantastic plates of food - vegetable sushi, cooked veggies and a beautiful plate of fresh tropical fruit for desert. It's an all you can eat sushi bar for 4500F (about 16euro) and is just of Szent Istvan Korut (the big ring road), 5 minutes from Nyugati Train Station. I even took some photos I was so impressed:

Hi everyone,
Just back from another trip to Budapest so I thought I'd update my post. It's still possible to get the Cerbona gluten-free breakfast cereal (cornflakes and coco-pops) both marked clearly with glutenmentes (gluten-free). I got mine in the Kaiser supermarket in the shops underground at Nyugati Pályaudvar (train station) Metro. They also had a large range of Schar products in stock - gluten-free pasta, museli, bread, biscuits etc. Some of the smaller local shops stocked gluten-free crackerbreads and rice cakes too.
I didn't get to eat in Wasabi again this time, but I notice they have moved location (http://www.wasabi.hu/) closer to Nyugati Pályaudvar but still off the ring road, Térez Kórút.
I had delicious gf pizza and tiramisu in Etna 2 Pizzeria (across from Keleti Pályaudvar) there is also Etna 1 Pizzeria (http://www.etna.hu/) on the Buda side of the city. Tried eating in Poco Loco (http://www.pocoloco.hu) but couldn't locate the restaurant. It seems from the website now that they are undergoing renovations and will be re-opened on November 15th.
Plenty of good places to eat gluten-free in Budapest!
