newly diagnosed
Hi,i've just been diagnosed as a coeliac and im really depressed.I'm 30 years old.I've never really been a salad eater and i do have a sweet tooth and i don't have much willpower.I really don't know what to do as i,m on the road a lot and don't know what to do for lunch as i used to eat sandwiches, any tips on breakfast and lunch would be much appreciated.

Janey Mac! No need to be depressed. There's loads to eat and its just that u gotta learn the ropes. u'll feel so good after a little time on the diet u won't believe it! Most places u can get a baked potato with stuff in it, and there's loads of good coeliac bread and all to be had. I get fancy bikkies and pastry from Ecodirect and they deliver it the morning after. I think if u phone them they'll show u the stuff the have and all even if u want to order on the web most times. ecodirect.ie is the site. Hope u'll get lots of advice. u can search this site for like sandwiches and see what comes up.
hi ronangriffin, i find the tesco free from range do white rolls that are lovely - you just refresh them in the microwave then you can fill them with whatever you like, and have them later for your lunch. Also there are pitta breads available in alot of super markets - i know the tesco near me do a brand called 'livwell'- they are a bit pricey at € 4 something for four, but are nice for a change.
I know when i found out i was a coeliac initally i thought i wouldn't be able to eat anything and was very daunted by it all, but once you take notice of whats available out there between supermarkets and health shops, theres no problem at all getting plenty of gluten free goodies. Get the gluten free manufactured products booklet from the society, and keep it close to check out what you CAN have - and try not to think too much about what you can't have!!!
good luck

Hi Ronan..
I felt the same way when first diagnosed and I'm sure pretty much everyone else feels the same way. It is a big change and takes a while to get the hang of. Though you will get there so just try and stay positive and remember that it's for the sake of your health and you will feel better for it.
as for lunches..
itsabagel branches do gluten free bagels and soups and fruit slices
the kilkenny shop, nassau st do gf lunches, sometimes quiches etc
spud u like have a gluten free list of which spuds are suitable, if you ask they will show it to you,
or if you fancy doing a packed lunch and want a sandwich..i like the odlums gf and wf bread mixes(especially the tomato and herb one) that you make up yourself, really easy..bread taste nice without having to toast it first..i just have it with cheese or houmous..or pate..
or you could make up some gf pasta or rice the night before with a nice sauce and some veggies, tuna or chicken.
There are loads of options out there, its just about experimenting..and you will get there so chin up!!!!
