Here’s a list of supermarkets. You’ll also find a copy of the Food List useful when going shopping in Ireland. It covers everything from snack food to alcoholic beverages.
If you are planning a long stay in Ireland it will certainly make shopping easier, as lists from other countries may not apply. A copy of the food list is available from the office.
Alternatively you can order your food in ahead of time from online shops such as Ecodirect and have it delivered to your hotel or accommodation for your stay.
As there is a high prevalence of Coeliac Disease in Ireland, a lot restaurants are familiar with the Coeliac condition and although there is still a slight misconception that wheat flour is the only culprit in our diet, if you can suggest ways that they might prepare your food so that you can enjoy it in peace you should have a very pleasant experience. Which leaves you to enjoy an Irish coffee and soak in the sights and sounds of the Irish culture!
Call the office for a copy of the restaurant and accommodation list. The Society keeps a list of places where members have enjoyed their experience.
The Coeliac Society also provides an Eating Out card, available laminated in several languages, which explains the foods you can and can not eat, and can be given directly to the waiter or chef. Again these are available from the office.
