There are a number of useful guidelines available for the diagnosis and management of patients with coeliac disease. However, as most of these guidelines have been developed outside of the Republic of Ireland information relating to financial aid does not apply, please see ‘Financial Support’ section of this website for more information.

Primary Care Society for Gastroenterology (PCSG)

PCSG (2006) produced a set of guidelines for healthcare professionals entitled "The Management of adults with coeliac disease in primary care". The guidelines cover symptoms, treatment and the management of coeliac disease.

Clinical Resource Efficiency Support Team (CREST)

CREST (2006) produced guidelines for the management of coeliac disease entitled "Guidelines for the diagnosis and management of coeliac disease in adults".http://www.crestni.org.uk/coeliac-disease-adult-diagnosis.pdf

Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute (INDI)

INDI (2009) produced guidelines 'INDI Consensus guidelines on implementing new codex standards'.http://indi.ie/docs/15_coeliac_disease_fact_sheet_2009.pdf.

National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)

NICE (2009) published guidelines entitled ‘Coeliac disease: Recognition and assessment of coeliac disease’. These guidelines offer best practice advice on the recognition and assessment of coeliac disease and the care of children and adults who are undergoing the diagnostic process for coeliac disease.

British Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (BSPGHAN)

BSPGHAN (2006) produced guidelines entitled ‘Guideline for the diagnosis and management of coeliac disease in children’.

World Gastroenterology Organisation(WGO)

The WHO (2007) produced guidelines entitled ‘World Gastroenterology Organisation Practice Guidelines: Celiac Disease’.

British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG)

The BSG (2007) produced guidelines for osteoporosis in coeliac disease and inflammatory bowel disease entitled ‘Guidelines for osteoporosis in inflammatory bowel disease and coeliac disease’. These guidelines review the risks of osteoporosis and fracture in these conditions with a view to identifying subgroups of patients that would benefit from screening and interventions to prevent fractures.

The BSG (2010) produced guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of adults with coeliac disease entitled ‘The Management of Adults with Coeliac Disease’.
