Non-Edible Items

Two teabags on a string

This list should clear up your questions about non-edible items and bust some of those coeliac myths.

  • Tea bag glue does not contain gluten.
  • Envelope gum does not contain gluten.
  • Toothpaste does not contain gluten.
  • Cosmetics – Gluten has to be ingested into the intestine to cause problems. It cannot be absorbed through the skin. If a lipstick, lip balm or face cream contained any gluten it is unlikely that you would swallow enough to cause any reaction. Remember that you might still find you’re sensitive to some cosmetics but this is not because of coeliac disease.
