This Supplementary Allowance is also available for people in receipt of Social Welfare Payments or on a very low income, who have a special diet as a result of Coeliac Disease.

• The amount of any diet supplement will be decided by the Community Welfare Officer in your HSE Area and is means tested.
• Usually, the condition must be prescribed by a hospital consultant or a hospital registrar, or in some special cases by a GP.
• Appeals can be made against a decision to the Appeals Officer of the HSE.
