Coeliac Awareness Day 2010 was held for the second year running in Beshoff Bros, Mespil Road on the 4th September. This is the Society’s 40th year providing support and information to coeliacs and we had the official launch of our revamped website on the day. See photos from the day here
All were welcomed to Beshoff Bros, Mespil Road to get a taste of the gluten-free fish and chips using Glu-to-Go batter that are available every weekend, making it possible for coeliacs to enjoy what was once a forbidden feast.
There was lots more happening on the day besides tucking in to some tasty fish and chips. Dietitian Harriet Lynch from Health Pro provided speed-dating style dietetics, where everyone had a chance to get some one-to-one time to have their dietary questions answered. We also had a face painter to keep the kids entertained, along with stands and free gluten-free goodies for everyone to go away with from Juvela, Nutrition Point and Eco Direct. Above all it was an opportunity to meet other coeliacs to swap tips and advice on the day.
It is estimated that close to one in every hundred people in Ireland have Coeliac Disease but it continues to go undiagnosed. It is essential that events like the Coeliac Awareness Day take place so that more and more people are aware of the symptoms and issues surrounding this condition and we were delighted to hold the event in Beshoff Bros, Mespil Road for the second time.
