The Coeliac Society of Ireland (CSI) is a voluntary Charity and Company Limited by guarantee based in the Carmichael Centre in Dublin 7. Since 1970, the Coeliac Society has provided information, support and awareness to Coeliacs throughout Ireland.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for Coeliacs and those who benefit from a gluten-free diet. Our vision is a healthier life for all Coeliacs and those who benefit from a gluten-free diet.

Our Services

We provide:

  • Information on coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis,
  • Information on gluten-free food,
  • Information on the gluten-free lifestyle,
  • Opportunities for members to meet and to share experiences,
  • A campaigning voice for Coeliacs to the government, health professionals, the food and hospitality industry and the general public.

Our work is directed by our aims which feed into our strategic_plan

Organisation Structure

We are organised at a national level by the Management Committee and by branches at a local level. We are run predominantly by volunteers all over Ireland and by staff working at the head office in Dublin.

In order for members to have their say, a national event is held annually and branch and support group meetings are held throughout the year. Every two years this event is a weekend Convention, held at different locations around the country. Every other year, our national event is our Coeliac Day and AGM, usually held in Maynooth, Co. Kildare.

We also participate internationally through our attendance at the annual conference of the European Association of Coeliac Societies (AOECS).

Who we are

12,000 members of all ages have joined us from all over Ireland. Members are not limited to just Coeliacs themselves, with membership also including:

  • Those on gluten-free diets for related conditions and other health or lifestyle reasons,
  • Family members,
  • Health professionals (GPs, hospital physicians, health nurses, dieticians, pharmacists),
  • Those involved in gluten-free businesses (manufacturers, retailers and hospitality including restaurants, cafés, caterers),
  • Those involved in gluten-free food provision (hospitals and care homes, schools, work canteens).
